I’ve always been deeply fascinated with When the Sky Is Like Lace by Elinor Lander Horwitz and Barbara Cooney. Much of it written in the second person, the text comprises a set of enigmatic instructions for slipping outside after dark and exploring a moonlit world of small marvels. Horwitz’s language dances playfully through mesmerizing prose poetry and high nonsense: “On a bimulous night...everything is strange-splendid and plum-purple...the trees eucalyptus back and forth, forth and back...in the fern-deep grove at the midnight end of the garden.” Cooney’s tranquil images complement the gently outlandish humor of the writing: hazy clouds, swaying tree branches, ripples on a pond, all bathed in an ethereal palette of indigo and lavender. #barbaracooney #night #sky #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
