For today, an adaptation of one of the world’s most widespread and enduring fairy tales: Cinderella by Diane Goode. The wicked stepmother and stepsisters, the menial household chores, the royal invitation, the fairy godmother’s magic, the flight from the grand ball, the search for the owner of the glass slipper, and all the rest of the time-honored elements are perfectly in place. Credited as translator, Goode faithfully preserves much of the language of French author Charles Perrault’s 1697 publication of the tale. Her period-accurate illustrations skillfully capture subtle but important nuances of character through body language and facial expression: Cinderella’s mounting fatigue and exasperation, the suspicion and envy of the haughty noblewomen, the stifled amusement of the court envoy when the slipper’s rightful owner is at last revealed. #dianegoode #cinderella #charlesperrault #perrault #france #french #fairytale #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
