Next up in my pre-Halloween scary book week: Ruth Brown’s A Dark Dark Tale, based on a traditional children’s chant of obscure origin. With a striking absence of characters (save a lone black cat), a sequence of eerie locations and landmarks unfolds from page to page, beckoning the reader onward from a dark, dark moor into a dark, dark house, where up a dark, dark stair lies a dark, dark room...Brown creates an atmosphere of ominous and sepulchral beauty with paintings that evoke the mystery and elegance of Gothic horror. Though tension mounts throughout, the ending brings a note of levity to dispel any sense of lingering dread. #ruthbrown #dark #halloween #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
