Have you read The Three Little Pigs by Glen Rounds? It’s the familiar tale of predator against prey, of the safety of home and the threat of the outside world, of survival through trickery and bravery. The loose line and sparse coloration of Rounds’ drawings evoke the conventions of folk art. The story omits the human characters who sell the pigs materials for building houses, instead having them come across a mound of straw, a pile of sticks, and an abandoned house made of bricks (this last change undercutting the third pig’s usual prudence and industriousness).
