It’s an ethereal tale of nighttime adventure you’ll discover in Tomie dePaola’s When Everyone Was Fast Asleep. The enigmatic Fog Maiden sends an enormous cat to awaken two children and beckon them out their bedroom window. The world outside appears new and strange, refracted through a hypnagogic lens: an elf horse waits along the road to the troll house, reptiles and birds dance at a royal palace, and the Fog Maiden herself finally appears to lull the children back to sleep. DePaola’s simple sentences achieve a pensive, dreamlike rhythm, while his muted color palette adds a veneer of stately beauty. #tomiedepaola #asleep #sleep #dream #fog #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
