It’s a quiet and comfortingly familiar brand of magic that’s explored in Nancy Willard and Ilse Plume’s Night Story. A child tells of his experience traversing the landscape of dream in a journey of free-association through “the country where nothing lasts,” riding by train past a range of mountains, wandering into a starlit forest, sailing on horseback over a sea of cloud, and returning to his very own room to greet the rays of the morning sun. In her first-person narrative, Willard employs a pensive and poetic tone, beginning the book with the word “And” to suggest a story mid-flow. Plume’s colored-pencil illustrations evoke a playful joy in both the night world and the waking world of day. #night #story #dream #train #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
