The book of the day is The First Forest by John Gile and Tom Heflin. This fanciful etiological tale documents the origin of trees, brought to life by an ancient creator known as the Tree Maker. At first, harmony reigns. However, quarrels over access to sunlight soon emerge, and a struggle breaks out that leaves many trees barren and broken. After healing the wounded, the Tree Maker doles out punishment and reward: trees that participated in the battle must forever lose their leaves in cold weather, while those who remained peaceful are allowed to stay green all year round. Gile weaves his story with spirited rhyming couplets, complemented by Heflin’s expressive, variegated illustrations. #first #forest #tree #trees #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
