Check out the soothing flow and energy of Buckley Smith’s Moonsailor. The wordless narrative emerges as a hazy pipe dream out of the wisps of a drowsy old man’s tobacco smoke. A tiny figure rises from the curling vapor and joins a companion aboard a model ship, which has lifted off from its perch on a shelf. The boat sails out the window, off into the night, and across the luminous face of the full moon. Out on the starry depths, the sailors cast a ghostly net, which drifts down to form a a blanket laid over the body of a sleeping child. Smith’s sepia-toned drawings achieve a remarkable chiaroscuro throughout the lulling and methodically paced vignette. #moon #sailor #smoke #boat #ship #night #sky #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
