Both the triumph of individuality and the value of community are celebrated in Richard Lee Vaughan and Lee Christiansen’s Eagle Boy. In this Native American tale from the Pacific Northwest, an orphan irks his elders by continuing to offer a share of salmon from his daily catch to the eagles that wheel in the air above him. When the fish grow scarce, the villagers decide to move on, but coldly leave the youth behind. However, when faced with the choice between helping his people and letting them starve, he undergoes a magical transformation and comes to their rescue. Vaughan’s straightforward retelling and Christiansen’s cinematically framed illustrations complement each other well and allow the emotional themes of the narrative to shine. #eagle #eagles #boy #fish #salmon #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
