Here’s a tale that explores the subtle inner conflict between the lofty ideal of honor and the immediate pull of moral duty. In Ann Tompert and Doug Keith’s The Errant Knight, a proud warrior receives a summons from his king. Insisting that he will not be an errant knight who strays from his path, he sets out promptly for the royal castle. However, on the way, he is delayed by a series of people in need, and—against his better judgment—he stops to help each one. In this way, many years pass, and the knight grows old and feeble. When he finally reaches the castle, the king puts forth a more flexible interpretation of his noble calling, and the grizzled paladin realizes that he may not have been a knight errant after all. Tompert conveys her worthy moral with grand and flowing language, accompanied by richly colored, expressive oil paintings from Keith. #knight #king #castle #journey #honor #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
