Another Rumpelstiltskin for your inspection, this one by Edith Tarcov and Edward Gorey. Tarcov closely adapts the text of the Brothers Grimm, though having fun with the queen’s first night of guessing by constructing a list of names in alphabetical order. The illustrations, in black and white with accents of yellow, provide the tale with Gorey’s characteristic air of eerie detachment. Rumpelstiltskin resembles a jocund, prancing elf; the tips of his yellow hood, sleeves, and hose appear to twist, coil, and knot of their own accord, as if odd prehensile appendages. #spin #spinning #wheel #gold #queen #baby #name #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
