Hansel and Gretel Week proceeds with a version by Cynthia Rylant and @corachacha. Rylant intersperses the story with gentle observations on the emotional realities of the narrative: Hansel and Gretel’s courage, the stepmother’s deception, the great providence of the white swan that ferries the children across the river. Corace depicts the natural landscapes of the tale with rich earth tones; particularly notable is her forest of strikingly contoured trees. On nearly every page, she includes a surface with an eye-catching pattern: the stepmother’s skirts, the bright quilts, the cottage’s floral curtains (replicated in the book’s endpaper), and even the upholstered interior of a treasure chest in the witch’s house. #forest #woods #house #witch #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
