As we journey through Hansel and Gretel Week, have a look at this delightful entry by Ruth Belov Gross and Winslow Pinney Pels. Gross’s text hews closely to the language of the Grimms’ later editions. Pels depicts the action from cinematic perspectives, with the foreground of the image often dominated by close-up objects such as chestnuts, dragonflies, maple seed pods, butterflies, pinecones, fireflies, and owls. His witch features a large hooded cloak and round, bright red eyes, one of which can be seen staring eerily out through the hole Gretel breaks in the sugar windowpane of the gingerbread house. #forest #woods #house #witch #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
