In One Fine Day by Nonny Hogrogian, a fox comes upon an old woman with a pail of milk. The fox greedily laps up the milk, and the old woman vengefully cuts off the fox’s tail. She agrees to sew it back on if the fox finds her some new milk, but a nearby cow insists on payment for its milk in the form of grass. The field asks to be watered before it will allow its grass to be picked, the river requires a jug to contain its water, and so on and so forth. The fox encounters a long chain of humans, animals, and other entities before a kindly miller takes pity on him. Beginning with a bit of grain from the miller, he retraces his steps with a series of trades that finally enables him to replenish the old woman’s milk and get his tail sewn back on. Drawing on a folktale from her Armenian background, Hogrogian employs a clear, concise writing style and cheery illustrations that downplays the implicit horror of the story’s inciting incident of mutilation. #fox #milk #tail #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
