Opposites hold powerful sway in the minds of children—and in the mind of adults. We enjoy considering the relationship and connections between two contrasting characters, objects, or qualities. To that end, come browse through @annemargotramstein and @matthiasaregui’s Inside Outside. Each two-page spread shows a pair of illustrations depicting an enclosure from two perspectives: the interior and the exterior. The authors’ wordless digital art makes a strong graphic statement as we see the inside and outside of a duck egg, a cave of quartz crystals, a maiden’s castle prison, an aviary, an anthill, a fishing pond, a storm-tossed sailboat, a submarine, a beehive, a ski lodge, a transport truck driving through the desert, and an art museum that has just been burgled. Some of the spreads reveal startling events and illuminating juxtapositions: the apple a young woman is about to bite into has been tunneled through by a worm, a whale has swallowed a castaway on a raft, a dog occupies so much of the interior of its doghouse that it would be a giant if the house were blown up to human size, the heart in the body of a bungee jumper is beating uncontrollably, a castle that appears to be outdoors is in fact inside a snow globe, and a house that looks just like all the others in its suburban sprawl contains the eclectic decorations and souvenirs of an old man’s long and exciting life. #inside #outside #different #contrast #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
