What if you were completely and utterly alone, viewed as hopelessly obsolete? What if a companion suddenly came into your life and you were the only one who could help them? How much would you give to ensure your new friend’s survival? These are the daunting questions asked in The Robot and the Bluebird by David Lucas. The story opens in a futuristic and highly mechanized society. A robot, broken beyond repair, is tossed out and consigned to an enormous junk heap. There he sits, friendless and downcast, until the day company arrives: a bluebird, exhausted from its journey south to escape cold weather. The robot welcomes the poor bird into the hollow space where its heart ought to be, and even musters the last of its strength to carry the bird as far south as it needs to go. Just as it reaches a warmer climate, the robot wears down completely and comes to a standstill. The bird, in memory of its electronic friend’s extraordinary sacrifice, makes its home inside the cavity of the robot’s chest forever after. With touching language and warm cartoon-style illustrations, Lucas spins a captivating tale of sadness and hope. #robot #bluebird #loneliness #friend #friends #friendship #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
