Following yesterday’s entry is another Pied Piper adaptation, this one with German text by Barbara Bartos-Höppner (translated into English by Anthea Bell) and art by Annegert Fuchshuber. Bartos-Höppner maintains the story set down by the Brothers Grimm but embellishes with colorful details, notably the change in the piper’s appearance after he returns to exact revenge on the stingy townspeople: rather than merely an angry expression, his face now show a mass of unexplained scars. The cheerful colors of Fuchshuber’s opening illustrations soon give way to dramatic chiaroscuro compositions punctuating critical moments in the plot. #piper #rat #rats #child #children #german #germany #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
