The spell of Sleeping Beauty Week has me in its thrall, as does this alluring edition retold and illustrated by Carol Heyer, with a warm and engaging narrative voice and art rendered in acrylic on canvas using live models. A note for folklore enthusiasts: Heyer has blended three different source texts for this adaptation. The frog messenger at the start of the story comes from the Brothers Grimm, the eight fairies signal the influence of Perrault (as does the book’s title, “The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood”, a translation of “La Belle au Bois Dormant”), and the old spinning woman’s identity as the wicked fairy stems from Tchaikovsky’s ballet. #sleepingbeauty #sleeping #beauty #fairy #fairies #queen #king #princess #prince #book #books #childrensbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
