Here’s the second entry in my seven days of Halloween: There’s a Nightmare in My Closet by Mercer Mayer. A young boy’s bedtime is plagued by a persistent nightmare. However, this nightmare is not a somnolent experience but rather an oversized, wrinkly, spotted goblin. One night, the boy catches the grotesque creature tiptoeing toward him across the room and switches on his bedside lamp. In the glare of the light, the nightmare instantly becomes passive and doleful, bursting into tears at a well-timed blast from a toy pop gun. The boy then takes pity on the nightmare and welcomes it into his bed to calm down and go to sleep. But what’s that peeking out of the closet now? With short, punchy sentences and merry cross-hatched drawings, Mayer creates a whimsical and emotionally layered guide to facing and accepting nighttime fears. #nightmare #closet #night #bedroom #bed #sleep #halloween #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
