There’s an unexpectedly sober message in Jack and the Night Visitors by Pat Schories. A young boy receives some unexpected guests one evening in the form of tiny spacefaring robots. He befriends the cadre of little automata, entertains them, and feeds them cornflakes. However, the story takes a darker turn when the boy innocently decides to trap one of the beings under a glass jar. Instantly, the other robots panic, their sense of safety shattered. They flee through the window (in the commotion the robot from the jar escapes) and take off into the night. Fascinatingly, the boy does not mean to frighten the robots, but his actions prove dangerous nonetheless. Schories uses the lighthearted wordless story to examine the potential for disastrous miscommunication in a first encounter between residents of separate worlds. #night #space #robot #robots #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
