Cinderella Week Redux arrives now at its grand finale, and I’m delighted to finish off with Glass Slipper, Gold Sandal by Paul Flesichman and @juliepaschkis. In this unique presentation, the author and artist follow the traditional Cinderella plot, flitting back and forth from culture to culture—in a single page shifting from Laos to Russia to Indonesia, from France to India to Iraq—to create an elegant patchwork of variants. Flesichman skillfully weaves together the subtly different details of each narrative into an dazzling international braid. Paschkis surrounds her cheery, expressive gouache illustrations on each page with striking borders that incorporate imagery from each land’s native artistic tradition, along with a caption naming the country of origin. Together, they warmly celebrate the wonder and universality of the story of Cinderella. #cinderella #glass #slipper #gold #sandal #international #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
