The book of the day is Goodnight Moon, the immortal classic by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd. Here is a cozy bedroom, with a child in the last few minutes before sleep watched over by an old lady whispering, “Hush” (both characters are depicted as anthropomorphic rabbits). Brown’s text achieves a hypnotically soothing rhythm as it bids goodnight to each object in the room, from kittens and mittens to a red balloon and, of course, the eponymous moon. Hurd’s art wonderfully complements the calming atmosphere, moving gradually from bright to dark with the turn of each page. Delightful metatextual references include an illustration on the wall of The Runaway Bunny (also by Brown and Hurd) and a tiny but unmistakable copy of Goodnight Moon itself on the bedside table. #goodnight #moon #bed #room #bedroom #bedtime #night #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
