A familiar weather pattern is viewed through a dazzlingly unexpected lens in Downpour by Emily Martin and Mara Shaugnessy. A sudden burst of rain causes all the red to drip off the poppies in the field and wash over everything, staining plants, animals, and objects for miles around. Martin’s poetic text unfolds methodically, the gentle rhythm and loose rhyme scheme allowing for quiet contemplation. Shaugnessy renders most of the art in black lines shaded with patches of gray, but draws the reader’s eye to key objects with enormous bursts of brilliant red. #red #rain #raining #poppy #poppies #flower #flowers #nature #weather #color #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
