Today I’ve been investigating Jon Agee’s The Wall in the Middle of the Book and enjoying its subtle themes of perspective and questioning assumptions. In this self-aware narrative, a knight introduces the reader to his world. A large brick wall stands in the gutter at the center of the book, dividing each spread in half. The knight is relieved to be on the left-hand side, away from an ogre who lives on the right. All seems to be going well until the left side begins to flood…and the knight soon reevaluates where the danger truly lies.
