Here is a look at Edward Lear’s comic verse The Jumblies, with illustrations by Edward Gorey. The poem tells an epic story of seafaring adventure. A group of young explorers called the Jumblies set out across the ocean in a sieve. They sail here and there until they come a land all covered with trees, where they make many delightful purchases—a cranberry tart, a hive of silvery bees, a lovely monkey with lollipop paws, and many more. Finally, they sail back home and are welcomed by their community with open arms. Gorey illustrates Lear’s merry prose with delicate monochrome hatching, casting the Jumblies as rotund, inscrutable dwarves. #sea #ocean #sail #sailing #boat #adventure #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
