Let Stella Blackstone and @nicolettaceccoli’s An Island in the Sun whisk you away to a far-off ocean paradise and back again. A young boy sails in a little boat over a shimmering sea. On and on he travels, looking now and then through his spyglass to see what is on the horizon. Finally, he reaches a tropical island, where a beloved canine companion awaits. The two of them enjoy a beautiful day together before sailing back into the sunset. Blackstone unfolds the front half of the story via cumulative text, the first seven two-page spreads beginning with “I spy with my little eye” and adding a new element to the beginning of the list. Ceccoli’s eye-popping colors and stretched, curving forms create an atmosphere of joyful exploration. #island #sun #sea #ocean #boat #bird #dolphin #dog #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
