Colin Thompson muses on humanity’s relationship to the land and environment in his thought-provoking work The Paper Bag Prince. A busy town disposes of its garbage by tossing it in the middle of a nearby valley. Despite the filthy conditions, life manages to thrive in the form of wildflowers, trees, and a few animals. An old man known to everyone as the Paper Bag Prince visits the dump every day, caring for the animals and collecting odd bits of junk in an abandoned railway carriage. In his youth, the location was his beloved home, but he was evicted after his farmhouse burned down. When the city decides to begin incinerating its trash, they return ownership of the site to the Paper Bag Prince, who is overjoyed. A truck driver and crane operator help him place several of the old train cars in a row, and he moves his belongings in at once. Considering himself truly blessed, he settles into a happy life wit his animal companions. Thompson’s straightforward text, along with his illustrations boasting intricate borders and a wealth of fascinating details, forms a simple but powerful parable of the sanctity of nature. #paper #bag #paperbag #prince #garbage #trash #waste #plants #animals #environment #nature #earth #book #books #childrensbooks #picturebook #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
