A sobering work of tragic beauty awaits you in The Feral Child by Eric Sundell and Charles Mikolaycak. It is the end of summer. Eighteen-year-old Aaron journeys out into the forest to seek his baby sister Katrina, carried away by wolves when he was only three. Along the way, he meets a Minstrel, a Ferryman, and a Woodcutter, who guide him on his quest. Finally, Aaron locates Katrina and brings her home to their parents. However, the wild girl cannot speak, cannot eat, cannot form a connection to her human family. Eventually, she dies, pining for her home with the wolves in the wild. Sundell’s magnificent text alternates forms, beginning as an epic prose poem and shifting into lyrical songs and dramatic dialogue when characters meet and interact. Mikolaycak contributes illustrations awash in symbolic grandeur. #child #brother #sister #wild #wolf #wolves #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
