Let us enter the wild woodlands and wander among the trees in this week of Baba Yaga books, arriving next at An Leysen’s lovely adaptation. Young Olga is ordered to go her stepmother’s sister’s house in the forest and bring back a needle and thread. Unfortunately, as the girl well knows, this sister is none other than Baba Yaga, and the house in the woods is the witch’s strange hut that walks on chicken legs. It is thanks to her kindness and cleverness that Olga is able to escape the bloodthirsty witch. With captivating narrative voice and soft-textured illustrations, Leysen creates a winning read. A note for folklore enthusiasts: This book adapts one of the best-known Baba Yaga tales. One main difference—here, the father simply drives his wife away when he discovers her contemptible treatment of his daughter. In the original story, he becomes so angry that he shoots her. #witch #forest #woods #hut #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
