In the heart of Baba Yaga Week, we come to the heart of the woods, where the hut that walks of chicken feet makes its feral abode. Today I am perusing a Baba Yaga story adapted by Ernest Small and illustrated by Blair Lent. A young girl named Marusia wanders through the forest. After being snatched up by Baba Yaga, she is kept prisoner in the house that walks on chicken legs, where she must think and speak carefully to stay one step ahead of the witch. Small’s detailed text, full of character and idiosyncrasy, is complemented by Lent’s sooty, richly colored woodcuts. #witch #forest #woods #hut #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
