Today is the winter solstice: the first day of winter. With the turning of the season, I’m contemplating Winter Waits, an allegorical tale by Lynn Plourde and Greg Couch. Winter, the youngest child of Mother Earth and Father Time, wakes up. Having been asleep for so long, he is brimming with energy. Father Time promises to come play, but first he must finish his work, and his son is left alone for hours and hours. When Winter makes a marvelous snowflake as a gift, Father Time, deeply touched, finally puts aside his work and the two share a tender romp across the sky. Plourde unfurls her original story in rhyming quatrains, while Couch illustrates the mythical proceedings in acrylic and colored pencil on museum board. #winter #mother #earth #motherearth #father #time #snow #ice #season #seasons #nature #book #books #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
