Christmas has come. Amid laughter, celebration, and love, I am reading @jpendzi and @isabelle_arsenault’s Once Upon a Northern Night. The text takes the form of a lyrical address to a sleeping child. Each physical element of the chilly landscape becomes a poetic wish for warmth and comfort, ready to present themselves at the first soft light of daybreak. Pendziwol’s language swirls and soars with ethereal imagery, while Arsenault’s illustrations, a blend of pencil, gouache, watercolor, ink, and digital technique, provide hazy textures and gentle scenes of winter animals. A very merry Christmas to you. #once #north #night #day #child #sleep #winter #love #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
