Chris Conover fashions an epic tale of bravery and enchantment in The Wizard’s Daughter. In need of a living, young Boots finds himself in the employ of an evil wizard who holds the entire realm of the North in his malevolent grasp. He serves his new master for three years, each spent in the form of a different animal—a hare, a raven, and a fish. During the third year, he discovers the wizard’s daughter trapped in a glass palace at the bottom of the sea. Together they formulate a plan to outwit the tyrannical mage and free the land from his control once and for all. With her energetic writing and bright illustrations, Conover creates a deeply entertaining fairy tale adaptation. Fascinating visual details include the wizard himself, sporting a nose ring, three scaly limbs, and one cloven hoof, and a hag in his retinue with a candle sprouting out of her neck to replace her head, which she carries under her arm. A note for folklore enthusiasts: Though the subtitle of the book is “A Viking Legend”, the front matter identifies the source as “The Wizard’s Daughter”, a tale collected by Danish folklorist Svend Grundtvig. Though some English translators have used this title, the original Danish story features a troll, rather than a wizard. #wizard #daughter #castle #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
