The book of the day is Shirley Climo and Alexander Koshkin’s Stolen Thunder. In this striking adaptation of an ancient Norse myth, Thor’s hammer Mjolnir is stolen. Clever Loki learns that the culprit is Thrym the Frost King, who will only return the weapon if the goddess Freya agrees to marry him. Loki devises a cunning plan: Thor must disguise himself as Freya and go to Thrym in her place. Clad in dresses, the two gods pose as bride and handmaiden, deceive a host of frost giants, and retrieve Mjolnir, to the gods’ enduring relief. Climo’s appealing text and Koshkin’s energetic illustrations (a mix of watercolor, tempera, and gouache) serve the story well. #stolen #thunder #hammer #god #gods #norse #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
