This is my nine-hundredth book review. I can hardly believe I’ve come so far. I now have exactly one hundred reviews to go before I reach one thousand, at which point I will stop—perhaps not forever, but for a time. I am grateful to have had you all as readers thus far, and I do hope you enjoy the final hundred books. There are great things ahead! Ominous, powerful, and uniquely formidable stands the figure at the heart of The Bone Keeper by Megan McDonald and G. Brian Karas. A mysterious woman lives out in the desert. Ancient, wrinkled, crafty, and tenacious, she sifts through the sands, collecting bones from myriad animals. Back in her cave, she pieces them together to form a skeletal wolf, which springs to spectral life through some arcane magic and flees into the lonely night. McDonald crafts an atmosphere of profound wildness through flowing, lyrical language. In evocative mixed-media art, Karas depicts the old woman with stark, earth-toned tribal imagery. Bone Woman is not evil; she is simply feral. Inscrutable. Elemental. #bone #bones #woman #desert #cave #wolf #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
