The book of the day is Jimmy Liao’s When the Moon Forgot. This touching story depicts an unexpected encounter and its cosmic impact on the world at large. The moon falls out of the sky and lands on Earth, where it is rescued by a young boy. A cottage industry of artificial moons springs up to provide people with light, but these replacements are soon discarded. Eventually, boy dons a wolf suit and ventures out into the world to try to help his friend return to the sky. Liao’s spare text (translated from Chinese by Sarah L. Thomson), interspersed with long wordless sequences, provides a contemplative atmosphere. The illustrations suggest fascinating and dangerous changes to the ecosystem in the moon’s absence, with a enormous animals watching the boy’s journey from forests in the countryside and dark alleyways in the city. #moon #earth #friend #friends #friendship #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
