Here is the next entry in my Final Ten Books, Gentle Readers, and it is a heartfelt look at the universality of human experience: To Every Thing There Is a Season by Leo and Diane Dillon. With text drawn from the Book of Ecclesiastes, each page presents a new tableau featuring a powerful emotion or encounter, moving from one people to another across time and space. The Dillons masterfully shift art styles from spread to spread, recreating the visual work of each civilization—Egyptian murals, Japanese ukiyo-e, Mixtec manuscripts, Greek vases, German woodcuts, Thai shadow puppets, Chinese silk paintings, and Australian Aboriginal bark art. With this thrillingly variegated approach, they celebrate the power and wonder of our shared humanity. #everything #season #joy #wonder #life #death #humanity #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
