Today I’m leafing through The Sleeping Beauty by the wonderful @mercer_mayer. The story here is a bit different from most versions, with new characters, backstories, and plot twists. However, while he takes liberties with the narrative, Mayer respects the essence of the characters and maintains a tone appropriate for a classic fairy tale. A formal beauty pervades the illustrations, wherein woven cloak patterns, cascading braids, and even tangled tree roots all resolve into elegant Celtic knots. #mercermayer #sleepingbeauty #thesleepingbeauty #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
