Today’s book is Count Silvernose, an Italian fairy tale adapted by Erik A. Kimmel and illustrated by @omarrayyanart. Unusually for a fairy tale, Kimmel depicts his heroine as large, physically powerful, hardworking, talented, and clever—but expressly not beautiful. Fascinatingly, Rayyan based his splendid paintings on art from a sixteenth-century Italian sketchbook. His choice to foreground this process by transitioning between line drawings and fully colored paintings within a single image induces the reader to view stately Renaissance imagery through a subtly postmodern lens. #omarrayyan #erickimmel #book #books #childrensbooks #fairytalebook #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
