I’ve been enjoying myself perusing Helen Ward’s The Moonrat and the White Turtle, the lively and eloquent tale of a band of animal pirates on a quest to capture the moon itself. Ward strikes an appropriate balance between judgment and compassion in her treatment of the chieftain’s hubris and eventual comeuppance. Her close attention to textural detail (flickering candle flames, the grain of wood planks, whiskers and bristles and fur markings on the bodies of the pirate crew) gives the outlandish proceedings a dash of grounding visual realism. #helenward #pirate #pirates #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
