The book of the day is Hansel and Gretel, translated by Anthea Bell from the German of the Brothers Grimm and illustrated by Dorothée Duntze. Bell’s prose remains faithful to the original text, appropriately underscoring moments of tension and terror. Duntze’s expressionistic art heightens key features of the characters and settings to externalize the emotional drama: the woodcutter and his wife hold little dioramas representing their arguments, the witch towers over Gretel like a hulking ogre, the hellish oven is decorated like a screaming theatrical mask. #hanselandgretel #hansel #gretel #brothersgrimm #thebrothersgrimm #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
