Wouldn’t we all love to wake up in the middle of the night and discover a miraculous pirate ship waiting to whisk us away on an airborne adventure? This marvelous scenario is the premise of Dieter Wiesmüller’s Maury and the Nightpirates, in which a crew of humans and sentient animals embarks on a perilous voyage to retrieve their treasure from a cadre of cutthroat corsairs. The text, (originally written in German with the title “Komm mit, Mauritz!” or “Come along, Mauritz!”), is peppered with rollicking turns of phrase and colorful pirate-flavored alliterations, including “terrible tempests”, “miserable milk-sop”, and “pillaging plunderers”. The art depicts the daring exploits of Maury and his friends in soft color and moody chiaroscuro. #night #pirate #pirates #ship #pirateship #magic #adventure #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
