The book of the day is @vic_turnbull’s Pandora, a tale of loneliness, connection, and healing. The plot opens in a barren, junk-choked wasteland (subtly hinted by both the text and the art to be a post-apocalyptic zone). Pandora, an anthropomorphic fox, lives in a little house held up above the refuse by tall wooden stilts. She spends her days scavenging in the vast mountains of refuse, collecting tokens and trinkets to mend as best she can. One day, a bird plummets out of the sky. She takes the poor creature in and lets it build a nest in an old cardboard box. This simple act of care sets off a series of events that will soon upend Pandora’s daily experience and utterly transform the face of the world around her. Turnbull pairs an elegantly spare writing style, marked by short, well-chosen phrases, with softly shaded, finely detailed illustrations in colored pencil and watercolor. The combination gives rise to an exquisitely restrained study in character and emotion. #postapocalyptic #wasteland #junk #bird #nest #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
