For the next entry in my Cinderella series, it’s this version by Laura Francesca Filippucci. The setting features dainty half-timbered houses and handsome castle towers, while the characters are depicted with well-rendered facial expressions and body language. A note for folklore enthusiasts: Filippucci bases her retelling wholly on Aschenputtel, the variant collected by the Brothers Grimm in Kinder- und Hausmärchen—even including the grisly detail of the stepmother convincing the stepsisters to cut off parts of their feet in order to fit into the glass slipper. Unsurprisingly, though, the final gory indignity, the stepsisters’ eyes being pecked out by birds (added by the Grimms in the second edition of their work in 1819), remains absent. #cinderella #magic #fairytale #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
