It’s Little Red Riding Hood Week, and today I have for you a classic version by Trina Schart Hyman. The details here are drawn faithfully from the Brothers Grimm variant of the tale, with the slight addition of a specific given name (“Elisabeth”) that precedes the heroine’s well-known nickname, and with the notable omission of the more gruesome details of the wolf’s demise. Hyman depicts a wealth of detail in her household and forest environments, and the borders on alternating pages contain floral designs and quilted patterns that evoke a homespun folk quality. A note for folklore enthusiasts: though working from the text of the Brothers Grimm, Hyman has titled her work “Little Red Riding Hood”, the common translation of Charles Perrault’s “Le Petit Chaperon Rouge”. The Grimms’ title, “Rotkäppchen”, is typically translated as “Little Red Cap”. #littleredridinghood #grandmother #wolf #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
