With Little Red Riding Hood Week in full swing, I’m excited to share this outlandish version by Francesca Cosanti. The text bears a noticeably relaxed and colloquial tone, and the climactic slaying of the wolf is elided with the euphemistic phrase, “he hit the wolf steadily,” the results left to our imagination. Cosanti takes something of a post-modern approach to the material with her digital collage-style illustrations. The human and animal proportions are drastically warped, such that Little Red Riding Hood’s head appears as large as the rest of her body, while the hunter looks scarcely tell enough to reach the underbelly of his mammoth horse. A few pages are starkly framed by the wolf’s negative-space silhouette, and each tree in the forest, in a masterstroke of visual synecdoche, is represented by a single gargantuan leaf. #littleredridinghood #grandmother #wolf #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
