Today’s Little Red Riding Hood adaptation comes to us from @jerrypinkneystudio. Certain details (such as the mother’s gift of chicken soup and raisin muffins) suggest an early American setting. In his art, made with pencil, watercolor, gouache, and ink on paper, Pinkney portrays a distinctive winter environment. He uses facial expression and body language to convey subtleties of temperament. Fascinatingly, the dramatic moment in which the woodcutter (a common stand-in for the Grimms’ huntsman) kills the wolf is presented elliptically, the shadow of a raised axe on the wall glimpsed from afar through the grandmother’s open doorway. #littleredridinghood #grandmother #wolf #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
