Today is Wednesday, and for this particular Wednesday I’ve decided to write about Ann Bertier’s lovely and lighthearted Wednesday. Two geometric entities look forward to their weekly game: Big Square breaks down and turns into shapes such as a butterfly, a flower, and a mushroom, and Little Round copies each transformation. When Big Square starts selecting shapes that Little Round cannot emulate (due to lack of body mass), the two friends must come up with a way to reconcile and work together to enjoy themselves once more. Bertier’s text, translated from French by Claudia Z. Bedrick, gives voice to two playful companions with childlike energy and creativity. The art, presented as snapshots of Big Square and Little Round’s activities, is restricted to solid blue and solid orange, achieving a hyper-modern graphic aesthetic. #square #round #circle #blue #orange #shape #shapes #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
