The book of the day is One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes, a winning folktale adaptation by Eric A. Kimmel and Dirk Zimmer. A man inadvertently consigns his daughter to a life of servitude with a witch and her two daughters. The girl’s kindly goat companion helps ease her pain from day to day and, through its own death, ultimately provides the key to her salvation. Kimmel’s clear, concise writing conveys the tension and drama of the plot in a lighthearted tone; Zimmer’s expressive illustrations, with their angular lines and cross-hatching, emulate folk art. A note for folklore enthusiasts: as Kimmel explains in an informative Author’s Note, this tale comes from the Hutsul people, an ethnic group spanning parts of Ukraine and Romania. #one #eye #two #eyes #three #witch #goat #tree #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
