There’s a haunting verbal and visual beauty to Jinnie Ghost by Berlie Doherty and @janerayillustration. An ethereal phantom girl flits through the darkness, entering house after house and uses the thoughts, fears, and dreams of sleeping children as raw material to shape their nights into playful flights of fancy. Doherty crafts her prose deliberately, with enchanting refrains that seem to call out to Jinnie Ghost, invoking her as a benevolent but inscrutable spirit. Ray positions her sparkling illustrations at striking angles and perspectives; her depiction of the eponymous Jinnie appears to embody the windy breath of nature, the pale gown and locks of hair containing a swirl of leaves and sparkling stars. #ghost #spirit #night #sleep #dream #dreams #children #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
